Former Canterbury Bulldogs under-20s player Luke Vella has been named head coach of the club’s Jersey Flegg Cup side for the 2020 season.
A local junior, Vella played Harold Matthews Cup and SG Ball Cup for the club before moving up to the Holden Cup, playing six games between 2013 and 2014.
The 25-year old took up coaching after a serious shoulder injury ended his playing career.
Vella has been an assistant coach for the Bulldogs’ under-20 side for the last three seasons and was the head coach of the Harold Matthews Cup Representative team that defeated NSW Country under-16 in May.
He takes over from David Penna, who coached the side for one season.
