The Australian Schoolboys have remained unbeaten on their tour of England with a 30-18 win over the Lancashire Academy in Manchester.

The tourists got off to a bad start with Lancashire capitalising on an error to score through centre Josh Simm.

Australia hit back soon after through second rower Juwan Compain, who exploded onto a Tommy Talau short ball.

Hooker Ryan Gray added the Schoolboys’ second when he darted over for his third try of the tour.

Lancashire cut the lead to two through winger Reece Hamlett but it was short lived as Stephen Crichton crossed just before the break to extend the lead to six.

Crichton crossed for his second just 30 seconds after the intermission, pouncing on an intercept as Lancashire worked their way out of their end.

A few minutes later, a bomb was let bounce by Lancashire and was pounced on by the Schoolboys who spread it wide to Bradman Best to score.

Lancashire then reduced the margin to 12 with 20 minutes to play after Sam Halsall crossed out wide from a looping Jake Wingfield dummy half pass.

The Schoolboys restored their 18-point lead just five minutes later after Best scored his second, set up by a beautiful pass from Talau.

Lancashire would then score in the final two minutes through prop Nathan Wilde to add some deserved respectability to the scoreline.

Tommy Talau, who joins the Wests Tigers in 2019, was named Man of the Match.

The Schoolboys will now face their toughest test of their tour, a two-game series against the England Academy.
