Jersey Flegg wrap – Round 2 2021

The wild weather in Sydney wreaked havoc with the Jersey Flegg this weekend with just one Round 2 contest being played.

Only Cronulla and Victoria took to the field while all four other games were postponed due to the heavy rainfall.

The Canterbury-Penrith fixture will take place this weekend, while the three other games are yet to be rescheduled.

Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks 18 – 10 Victoria Thunderbolts

Cronulla picked up their first win of 2021 with a hard fought eight-point victory over Victoria at a soaked Netstrata Jubilee Stadium. The Thunderbolts opened the scoring through five-eighth Jonah Pezet, who recorded his second try of the season. What followed was a dour 28 minute period where the two sides combined for 14 errors before Cronulla got on the board just before halftime through debutant winger Thomas Rodwell. The Sharks hit the lead six minutes after the break when Harrison Geraghty scored and then extended the margin to 10 thanks to a Kai Parker try in the 51st minute. Samuel Fomai crossed in the 56th minute to cut Cronulla’s lead to four but the game was put beyond doubt when Kyle Pickering scored the Sharks’ fourth try with just five minutes to play.

Cronulla 18 (Geraghty, Parker, Pickering, Rodwell tries; Pickering goal) def. Victoria 10 (Fomai, Pezet tries; Pezet goal) at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium.

Debuts: Thomas Rodwell (Cronulla), Jared Nauma, Samuel Fomai, Matthew Craparotta (Victoria)
