The Sunshine Coast Falcons have appointed Sam Mawhinney as their Intrust Super Cup head coach for the 2020 season.
Mawhinney was in charge of the Falcons’ Hastings Deering Colts side in 2019 and led them to their first premiership in his first year at the helm.
Under Mawhinney, the Falcons finished the regular season in fourth and defeated the teams who finished first, second and third on their way to the title.
He was previously an assistant to outgoing Falcons’ boss Eric Smith for the Melbourne Storm’s under-20 side in 2016 and 2017 and was the assistant to the Falcons ISC side in 2018.
Smith, who won the minor premiership with the Falcons in 2019, will join the Newcastle Knights in 2020.
