Charlie Staines

Penrith Panthers fullback Charlie Staines was named the 2019 NSWRL Jersey Flegg Player of the Year at the Brad Fittler Medal awards last night in Sydney.

A Forbes junior, Staines made his Flegg debut for the Panthers in Round 1 after starring for their SG Ball Cup side in 2018.

Starting on the wing, he played five games in the position before moving to fullback in Round 7.

In just 14 games, he scored 16 tries, finishing the regular season as the equal top try scorer in the competition.

In June, he made his NSW Cup debut for Penrith, playing seven games and scoring three tries.

His great form was rewarded with selection as 19th man for the New South Wales under-20 side in July.
