A Queensland under-16 City v Country game and merit team will replace the annual under-16 Origin fixture against New South Wales in 2019, the Queensland Rugby League has announced.

Queensland U16 City will play Queensland U16 Country as one of the curtain-raisers to the Intrust Super Cup Grand Final at Redcliffe’s Dolphin Stadium on September 29.

Following the game, a Queensland under-16 merit side will be selected.

The City and Country sides will be predominately selected based on a player’s performance at this week’s QRL Junior State Championships on the Sunshine Coast.

With no under-16 Origin game in 2019, the New South Wales Rugby League also held a NSW U16 City v Country game, with a NSW U16 side selected afterwards that played the NSW Pasifika U16 side.
