Each week in the U20 Report we look at under-20 eligible players from your club who are currently playing in either the Intrust Super Cup (Queensland) or Canterbury Cup (New South Wales).

Brisbane Broncos
Xavier Coates, a member of Tweed’s under-18 national championship side, made his Intrust Super Cup debut in Seagull’s win over the Pride. Playing on the wing, he scored two tries and ran for 87 metres in the victory. Prop Ethan Bullemor was strong once again off the bench in Norths’ loss to Wynnum Manly. He ran for 120 metres and made 19 tackles in just 44 minutes. Winger Herbie Farnworth added a try and 116 metres, with four tackle breaks. Fanitesi Niu, recently selected for the Queensland under-18 side, ran for 83 metres in Souths Logan’s loss the PNG Hunters.

Canberra Raiders
Hooker Kyle Paterson picked up a try in Mounties’ 30-point loss to the Bulldogs in Round 11. He also made 34 tackles with just one miss, while centre Harley Smith-Shields ran for 103 metres and broke three tackles.

Canterbury Bulldogs
Isaiah Tass, Zac Hetherington and Javvier Pitovao all made their Canterbury Cup debuts and scored tries in the Bulldogs’ 30-point win over Mounties. Tass added 147 metres and three tackles in an impressive debut, while prop James Roumanos also crossed for a try. In Hetherington’s nine minutes on the field, he not only scored but set up a try as well.

Cronulla’s three under-20s players were in fine form in Newtown’s win over the Dragons, with halfback Braydon Trindall crossing for a hat trick. Involved in everything, he also kicked six goals, set up a try, broke seven tackles and forced a drop out. Ronaldo Mulitalo ran for 174 metres and broke a whopping 10 tackles, while second rower Teig Wilton played the full 80, running for 155 metres.

Gold Coast Titans
Centres Ioane Seiuli and Treymain Spry were solid contributors in Tweed’s 30-14 win over the pride. Seiuli ran for 62 metres and made six tackles, while Spry ran for 55 and made 10. Darius Farmer came off the bench again for Burleigh, running for 35 metres in 29 minutes in their win over the Capras.

Winger Alfred Smalley proved hard to stop in Blacktown’s loss to the Warriors. He ran for 157 metres from 16 runs and broke nine tackles. Hooker Tyran Ott came off the interchange for 25 tackles, with no misses, in 34 minutes.

Five-eighth Phoenix Crossland’s hat trick helped the Knights to an 18-point win over North Sydney at McDonald Jones Stadium. Fullback Tex Hoy added 103 metres and a try assist, while 18-year old centre Bradman Best made 24 tackles without a miss.

Peter Hola may have earned an NRL debut after a great performance in the Pride’s loss to Tweed. In 58 minutes, he scored a try, ran for 189 metres (78 of those post contact) and made 17 tackles. Tom Gilbert was a standout for Townsville once again, running for 157 metres and making 35 tackles in 61 minutes in his side’s win over Easts. Winger Elijah Anderson scored both of the Capras’ tries in their loss to Burleigh.

Wentworthville’s side featured a host of under-20s players in Round 11, as they defeated rivals Penrith at Ringrose Park. One of them was five-eighth Jaeman Salmon, who ran for 87 metres and set up a try in the win. Outside backs Haze Dunster and Ethan Parry were strong, with Dunster running for 94 metres and Parry scoring a try. Prop Oregon Kaufusi ran for 91 metres and made 31 tackles, while Stefano Utoikamanu ran for 71 metres in 40 minutes off the bench.

Five-eighth Adam Fearnley scored a try and kicked for 142 metres in the loss, while prop Spencer Leniu ran for 73 metres in 49 minutes.

Six under-20s players lined up for North Sydney in their loss to Newcastle in Round 11. Sam Verrills played 67 minutes, scoring a try and making 36 tackles, while second rower Fletcher Baker also crossed the stripe and made 29 tackles in an 80-minute performance. Lock Josh Curran made 96 metres and 32 tackles in 59 minutes. The Bears’ bench featured three under-20s, including hooker Max Altus, who was on debut.

Warriors’ Jersey Flegg captain Tyler Slade made his Canterbury Cup debut, making 16 tackles without a miss in 34 minutes. Prop Phillip Makatoa added 114 metres and 21 tackles off the bench.
