The second part of a split round saw two extremely close finishes and two big scorelines as one team remains undefeated in 2018. All that and more in this week’s Hastings Deering Colts wrap.

Tweed Heads 52 def. Ipswich 22
Fresh off a bye in Round 9, Tweed Heads recorded a dominant 30-point win over the Jets. The Seagulls ran in seven first half tries, which included a hat trick to winger Curtis Dansey-Smaller and a double to fullback Lee Turner, to lead 40-0 at the break. Ipswich added four tries in the second half but two more to Tweed Heads saw them crack 50 in a dominant performance. The loss is Ipswich’s eight straight as they remain at the bottom of the ladder, while Tweed Heads move into the 10th.

Western Mustangs 30 def. Mackay 12
The Mustangs snapped a five-game losing streak with a strong 18-point victory over Mackay in Toowoomba. The Cutters opened the scoring through winger Jayden O’Shannessy, his 9th try of the year, before the Mustangs hit back with three tries to lead 16-4 at the break. Mustangs winger Christopher Chalmers added his second try of the game shortly after the break before Jacob Leach added another to extend their lead to 22 points. The Cutters added two late tries but it was too late as they slumped to their third straight loss.

Northern Pride 19 def. Redcliffe 18
A last minute field goal has seen the Pride remain undefeated and top of the ladder at the end of Round 10. Redcliffe lead 12-6 at half time and extended it to 18-6 shortly after the break through a Radean Robinson try. Down 12 points with the eight minutes to play, the Pride ran in two tries in four minutes before halfback Jack Campagnolo kicked the winning field goal as the clock ticked down. The win, their fifth straight, puts the Pride two points ahead of Townsville on the ladder.

Wynnum Manly Seagulls 37 def. Victoria 34
Wynnum Manly bounced back from two straight losses in a back and forth win over Victoria. Wynnum jumped out to 12 and 6 point leads in the first half but were pegged back both times by the Thunderbolts. A Shannon Gardiner field goal gave the Seagulls a one-point lead at half time. They extended that lead to seven shortly after half time but a double to Thunderbolts’ winger Junior Ratuva and a try to prop Kayleb Milne put Victoria up by nine with 10 minutes to play. Staring down three straight losses, the Seagulls pulled off two tries in two minutes to take a three-point lead, which they would hold until the final siren. The loss is Victoria’s fourth straight after winning four in a row to start the year.
