Hastings Deering Colts wrap – Round 4

Three sides remain undefeated, while another three remain winless after a bye-shortened Round 4 of the Hastings Deering Colts. All that and more in this week’s Hastings Deering Colts wrap.

Wynnum Manly 42 def. Ipswich 18
A rare Thursday night encounter saw Wynnum stay undefeated with a big 24-point win over Ipswich. The Seagulls ran in eight tries to four, including a double to winger Jalen Tangiiti-Turner. It wasn’t all clear sailing for Wynnum, as they trailed the Jets 8-6 late in the first half, before getting the lead in the 34th minute through a Ryan O’Keefe try. They never let it up, running in five second half tries to seal the win.

Easts Tigers 28 def. Sunshine Coast 12
Easts overcame an early deficit to record their second win of the year, defeating the Sunshine Coast by 16 points. The Falcons got off to fast start with an early try to Rowan Jardine. Easts returned served three minutes later through Luke Kisaloff and took the lead three minutes after that thanks to a Lorenzo Mulitalo try. Falcons hooker Caleb Daunt went over late to cut the deficit to 10 before a late Zac Teevan try sealed it for Easts.

Souths Logan 24 def. Burleigh 10
It was the first win of the season for Souths Logan as they upset the Bears with a 14-point victory on Saturday afternoon. The Magpies scored within two minutes through second rower Broughton Clark and never lost their lead. Five-eighth Kye Oates scored a try in the win and kicked 4 goals for a personal tally of 12 points. The loss was Burleigh’s second straight after they started the year off strongly with two consecutive victories.

Norths Devils 42 def. Western Mustangs 18
Norths made it four straight wins on Saturday afternoon after a dominant 24-point victory over the Mustangs. The Devils had the game all but sealed at half time as they scored six first half tries and raced out to a 32-6 lead. Three of those tries were to rampaging prop Eddie Blacker. Halfback Tom Best added two tries of his own in the second half to cap a big win for the second placed Devils.

Northern Pride 18 def. Mackay 10
The Pride have continued their solid start to 2018, remaining undefeated thanks to an eight point win over the winless Cutters. The Pride lead 12-4 for the majority of the game before Mackay made it a two point game in the second half thanks to a Hayden Pace try. Halfback Jack Campagnolo crossed in the 59th minute and converted his own try to extend the Pride’s lead, which they would hold until the final whistle.
