Following the 2017 season, Mailata left rugby league to join the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program. In April 2018, he was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 7th round of the 2018 draft. He earned a place on the team’s final 53-man squad and later became a regular starter at the offensive tackle position. On 11 September 2021, he signed a four-year, $64 million contract with the club.
