Parramatta Eels 28 def. Canterbury Bulldogs 10
Parramatta continued their great end of season run with an 18-point win over Canterbury. After a 12-4 half time lead, the Eels blew the Bulldogs away in the second half, scoring three tries in a five minute period. Parramatta, who can’t make the finals, have now won four games straight, while Canterbury drop to seventh. Debutants: Zac Rumble (Canterbury).
Cronulla Sharks 24 def. Sydney Roosters 16
Cronulla jumped the Roosters into first place on the ladder with a tense eight-point victory on Saturday afternoon. Trailing 10-0 early, the Sharks fought their way back to lead by eight early in the second half. The Roosters cut the lead to two inside the final 10 minutes before Sharks’ lock Kayleb Milne crossed for his second try of the game to seal the win.
Wests Tigers 28 def. Victoria Thunderbolts 8
The Tigers recorded their fifth straight win and remain in finals contention after a 10-point win over Victoria. The Tigers led by just four at half time before three second half tries gave them an unassailable lead. The Tigers sit in ninth, behind the Dragons on points differential, while Victoria will finish the year in 12th.
St George Illawarra Dragons 42 def. Warriors 22
The Dragons ended the Warriors finals hopes and kept themselves in the top eight with a 20-point win at Kogarah. The Dragons led by 12 points on four separate occasions with Warriors always hitting back to claw within six. Two late tries pushed the lead to 20 and gave the Dragons their third straight victory. Sitting in eight, a win in Round 24 will secure the finals spot.
Penrith Panthers 56 def. North Sydney Bears 6
Penrith returned to form with a 50-point thrashing of the Bears, moving them back into the top four. Without a win since Round 18, the Panthers ran in 10 tries, which included doubles to Matthew Faauila and Adam Fearnley. Penrith now sit in third, while North Sydney are just a point above last-placed Manly with one game remaining.
Canberra Raiders 48 def. Manly Sea Eagles 12
Canberra kept their top four hopes alive with a dominant 36-point win over Manly. The Raiders were largely untroubled by the bottom of the table Sea Eagles, leading 26-0 at half time. They scored nine tries, with Manase Kaho and Gideon Afemui both crossing for doubles. Canberra now move into fifth with one round left to play.
Newcastle Knights 36 def. South Sydney Rabbitohs 32
Newcastle outlasted South Sydney in a tight but high scoring contest to move into the top four. The lead changed hands five times inside the first 45 minutes before the Knights opened up a 14-point lead with 15 minutes to play. The Rabbitohs got within four twice in the final 10 but Newcastle held on for the win. While Newcastle move into fourth, the Rabbitohs drop to sixth. Debutants: Jaron Purcell (Newcastle).
