The Warriors upset Cronulla in the opening game of Round 18 to now sit just one point outside the top 8. The Warriors are looking for their first top 8 finish since the 2015 Holden Cup season. The loss, which is the Sharks second straight, opens the minor premiership race wide open.

South Sydney Rabbitohs 36 def. Parramatta Eels 32
South Sydney and Parramatta both scored six tries in a high scoring affair at Redfern, with Blake Taaffe’s perfect goal kicking the difference. The match ended with Rabbitohs’ hooker Josh Cook sent off following a dangerous tackle and his team mate Aidan Manowski and Eels’ halfback Bailey Biondi-Odo sin binned. The win entrenches Souths in the top 8, while Parramatta sit in 11th. Debutants: Kieren Mundine (South Sydney).

Penrith Panthers 42 def. Newcastle Knights 12
Penrith were dominant in their 30-point win over Newcastle, in what was a match between 3rd and 4th. The Panthers scored seven tries, which included doubles to Adam Fearnley and Justin Jones. The win puts the Panthers just two points behind ladder leaders Cronulla, while the Knights are fourth and level with three other teams on 18 points. Debutants: Cody Edstein-Boyes (Newcastle).

Canberra Raiders 38 def. Wests Tigers 6
After leading by just four points at half time, Canberra blew the Tigers away in the second half, running in 28 unanswered points. The Raiders scored seven tries, including a double to winger Manase Kaho. The loss leaves the Tigers sitting four points outside the top 8, while Canberra sit in seventh.

North Sydney Bears 36 def. Manly Sea Eagles 20
The wait is over for North Sydney, as they won their first game of 2019, snapping an 11-game losing streak and defeating rivals Manly in the process. It took three tries in the final 20 minutes to secure the win, after Manly chased down the Bears’ 20-8 half time lead. North Sydney are now just one point behind Manly in the battle to avoid the wooden spoon. Debutants: William Baker (Manly).

Victoria Thunderbolts 18 def. Canterbury Bulldogs 18
A late penalty goal to Thunderbolts captain Matt Stimson saw Victoria and Canterbury split the competition points on Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs were on a four-game winning streak heading into the match and were forced to come from behind to take a late lead before Stimson levelled it.

Sydney Roosters 24 def. St George Illawarra 6
A hat trick to Freddy Lussick helped the Roosters to a big 18-point win over the Dragons at Leichhardt Oval. The victory, which was the Roosters’ third straight, now sees them sit just one point behind the Sharks. The loss was the Dragons’ second straight and has them in eight spot, one point ahead of the Warriors.
