The Parramatta Eels have gone through the Harold Matthews competition undefeated, defeating the Newcastle Knights in today’s Grand Final.

It was a back and forth first half, with the Knights withstanding plenty of early pressure from the Eels.

Parramatta were the first to score through Charbel Tasipale, who followed up a Hyrum Wichmann line break.

Newcastle hit back through halfback Phoenix Crossland, who beat a number of defenders close to the line.

6-all at half time, Newcastle got in front through a penalty goal early in the second half.

Parramatta took the lead a few minutes later, thanks to a great individual try to William Kei, his 20th of the season.

They extended their lead to eight, when Tasipale grabbed his second with under 10 minutes to play.

The Knights then fought back to within two points with a try to Timanu Alexander.

In the final minute of the game, Newcastle had a set on the Eels’ line but Parramatta’s defence held firm to win their 20th Harold Matthews premiership.

Man of the Match: Kyle Schneider (Parramatta)

Parramatta 16 (Charbel Tasipale 2, William Kei tries; Kyle Schneider 2 goals) def. Newcastle 14 (Timanu Alexander, Phoenix Crossland tries; Jock Madden 3 goals) at Pepper Stadium.
