Eric Smith has been announced as the Melbourne Storm’s Holden Cup head coach for 2016, with Craig Ingebrigtsen joining as operation manager.
Smith, who takes over from Marc Brentnall, was an assistant coach at the Easts Tigers in 2014 and an assistant to Brentnall’s NYC side in 2015.
Smith previously captain-coached Cairns Brothers for five seasons, winning three premierships and the CDRL Coach of the Year award on two occasions. In 2012, he captain-coached the Muswellbrook Rams, taking them to the Grand Final and winning the Group 21 Coach of the Year award.
He captain-coached his hometown club, the Tumut Blues, in 2013 before joining the Easts Tigers the following season.
Craig Ingebrigtsen, who joins as the NYC side’s Operations Manager, will also coach the Sunshine Coast Falcons in the Intrust Super Cup.
Ingebrigtsen has coached the Easts Tigers for the last three seasons, taking them to back-to-back Grand Finals in 2013 and 2014.
As announced in August, the Storm’s NYC side will be based out of the Sunshine Coast in 2016.
