Parramatta Eels’ legend Luke Burt has been appointed head coach of the club’s Holden Cup side for 2016.

Burt made his NRL debut for the Eels at the age of 17 and went on to play 264 games for the club, including two Grand Finals.

During his 14 seasons in the Blue and Gold, he scored 1,793 points, second only to Mick Cronin, and 124 tries, a club record.

Since retiring at the end of 2012, Burt has worked on the Eels’  NRL coaching staff as a specialist outside backs coach.

He takes over from Brett Cook, who took over halfway through 2015 from Steven Hales.
